LG Sound Bar Al ThinQ (SL10YG)

The LG-SL10YG soundbar produces a truly unique sound experience.

First off, the packaging:
The packaging includes a long box with Styrofoam for protection of all contents. As soon as it’s opened, the instruction manual, brackets, and cables/remote can be easily removed. Once removed, the soundbar is covered in a nice wrap and easily accessible. The subwoofer is sandwiched in between two solid Styrofoam blocks and has a tight strap around it for lifting it out. Overall, excellent packaging and easy to handle and unpack/unbox.

The sound bard is slim profile extra-long about 57” total and fits directly under a large 55” and up TV. My TV is 75” and looks great in relation to the TV as far as size is concerned. The sound bar features touchscreen controls with the functions of ‘input, volume, play/pause, google assistant, and mute’ and very touch sensitive. The soundbar features speakers on top and infront as part of the 5.1.2 system and links directly to the wireless subwoofer. It has a small LED screen to display control status and responds very quickly once google is triggered and you are connected to wifi. The bar has a very slick finish and looks very modern. Excellent quality and appeal. The installation is very simple with an HDMI cable connected to the TV and through The HDMI (ARC) port on the bar and the wireless sub automatically links to the bar once connected and power is on.

The google assistant built in is amazing and provides a lot of functionality expected from a typical google home devices and/or Alexa. Ask the soundbar anything and google will do ‘weather, sports, traffic, play music, time, etc.’ Very convenient if you are cooking and need a timer or just want some nice music without having to link your phone or another smart device. You do have to install the google home app to both install this feature and truly enjoy the full functionality of this soundbar.

The sound is very crisp and surreal and offers a wide spectrum of sound. The soundbar is also featuring Dolby Atmos onboard and support for DTS:X. Dolby atmos allows you to be surrounded by sound from even above as previous soundbars only allow for front and rear. The bass depth is powerful and provides an exceptional clarity. The wireless subwoofer itself produces 220w true RMS output and is very powerful sometimes I think even way too powerful for some smaller rooms such as mine but I love the immersive experience. Watching movies with a lot of action is a very pleasant cinematic experience paired up with my LG 4k nanocell TV. The subwoofer delivers an amazing rumble effect and the dialogue sounds clear. Maybe someday I will purchase the rear wireless speakers as an added bonus to this setup but as it stands right now, the soundbar and the subwoofer are more than adequate.

The remote is a little larger than typical for a sounder I’m used to and runs on two AAA batteries that are included. It does however perform all the functions needed and has the same options as the bar itself.

Overall, this soundbar produces a high quality immersive cinematic experience at the comfort of one’s home. I love how easy it is to setup, install, and use the google assistant for anything I need with my voice. The subwoofer and soundbar plays lows and highs very well and has wide dynamic range. The music, movies, and dialogues sound crispy clear and very powerful. Dolby atmos provides a unique experience paired up with 4k TV. The overall design of the bar is great. I love this brand new LG product. The rear speakers are not required unless you have a very large room, even then can be argued. The 550w true RMS power output of the speakers is more than enough and provides a very strong rumble.
This product fits very well alongside any 55”+ TV and is not heavy like other sound bars. The wifi capability is a plus. A very unique and powerful system for a true lifelike experience.

LG Nano Cell 8 75" review

I just received my brand new LG Nanocell 8 series (8670PUA) 75” TV and it is so awesome. Let me just say that awesome is an understatement.

First off the packaging:

Very well protected and very easy to remove the packaging. I really love how easy it is to remove the main box directly from the interior packaging and leave it standing in place. Well designed. The protection of the screen is well thought through.
The instructions are very well shown and simple to follow from the unboxing to installation. Let’s put it this way, you don’t have to dig for different bolt types or figure out unlabeled nuts and bolts as it’s very conveniently placed in a bag and labeled accordingly. The picture in the installation manual shows a clean isometric view of the installation to assist in knowing which direction to bolt the items together. The TV can mount to either a stand which is provided with the appropriate installation instructions and bolts or onto a freestanding floor TV mount that I opted to buy separately and mount to. The universal bolts provided can pretty much secure to any mount wall or original TV stand. From an overall time of install, plan for about 30 min to an hour depending on how quick you are at following directions and whether you have a helper which by the way HIGHLY recommended as this TV is Heavy (about 70 lbs) and large/long.

The presentation and marketing of the TV itself is enough to get anyone interested pointing out the main features of the TV and the slick look.
Actual hardware (TV/Mount)
The mount is made from plastic material with a metal plate/frame to secure it to the back of the TV. It will look very slick once assembled if you are to go this route. Again, for this, I opted to install it to a separate mount. LG definitely put in effort into details of the looks of this TV and mount with an elegant design and is definitely not an eye sore as some of the older TV’s on the market. This will make your living room space stand out and put the focus right on this beauty.
The TV itself is 74.5” diagonal ultra-thin profile about 2.5” (at the thicker side on bottom) and a flat back and 1” thick on the thin side.   All the connections for the power and AUDIO/VIDEO(HDMI) are on the right hand side (if looking from the back) Quantities are (4) HDMI, (3) USB, RF, Composite, Ethernet, Optical, Mini Jack and ARC HDMI. Very convenient access to the HDMI ports. The mounting screws are VESA compatible and should fit on most standard mounts.
Now the fun part (The actual screen/display)
This is a SUPER and I mean SUPER UHD TV 4k with artificial intelligence built in. The moment you turn it on, the software setup is a breeze if you just follow the step by step on screen instructions. You can setup you wifi this way as well and or change any display settings. Don’t worry if you change your mind about any setup down the road as it’s very easy to go back through and adjust using the settings button on the magic remote or use google assistant.
The google assistant
As with any device that has the google assistant, you can pretty much do mostly everything you desire with a simple voice command. Tell it to turn off after the show, tell it to open settings, tell it to open an app, etc. Excellent feature and a very simple interface. The best part of this TV is that you don’t need to buy a separate google device to get the google assistant features. IT’s all built in. This TV also has the amazon Alexa compatibility but I have not tested it just yet. The google assistant pretty much allows you to connect to any home device if it’s on your network and you can control it from your TV.

The Processor

The a7 Intelligent processor is surprisingly very fast and response time is solid. Applications load rapidly and the content is displayed and rendered with minimal lag time. The processor enhances all the 4k HDR content for a very beautiful display of color.

The Image on screen

Where do I begin, LIFELIKE – very lifelike. Sometimes so lifelike that it feels that you are immersed in the picture/movie. This is my first 4k HDR TV and I cannot rave enough about it. I tried watching different movies, played my old PS3 on this and it looked amazing and even downloaded a few images to use a theme for the TV and it looks superb. The picture is vivid, sharp, superior depth perception, and the colors are so beautiful from scene to scene using the High dynamic range feature. The viewing angle – pretty much you can view this TV from any angle and I didn’t see any issues from any side even in bright daylight. There is very minimal reflectivity/glare and the deep black levels that LG promised to deliver are truly there. This produces true colors even at the darkest or brightest of environments. The Nano display details out over a billion colors.  The refresh rate of 240hz delivers a crisp and smooth transition from scene to scene especially on action scenes and is definitely a step up from the 120hz I used to own. On the flip side, if you have the 240hz on, some older movies will look like they were cheaply made from scene to scene as it was intended for modern day TVs.

The sound

Without a sound bar the TV sounds really good straight out of the box. The speakers are well positioned at the bottom of the TV and produce a crisp lifelike sound especially when watching 4k HDR content due to the new features produced by Dolby ATMOS which is native to this TV and immerses you into a surround sound experience. I had no issues with music playback, movies, and video games. I happened to have a vizio 5.1 sound bar that I tried connecting to this TV to test out the sound and it worked flawlessly. I have ordered the new LG ATMOS Sound bar that should be arriving soon to complement this TV and I’m sure that Dolby ATMOS will be a huge upgrade for my current soundbar. Then it will be even more of a truly realistic immersive experience.

The remote

The LG magic remote is a very unique remote that I haven’t seen thus far in this market. The ability to have a scroll wheel and a cursor by pointing on the screen is a very unique concept to me. This is very similar to the cursor operation on the computer screen where you have a mouse to control it. I use it every day and pick and choose what I want once I asked google assistant to find it for me.  The remote has quick keys, simple interface and easy to understand symbols. The only drawback to this remote which I am slightly bummed about for convenience is that it doesn’t light up in darkness. This feature would have made this remote Perfect in my eyes as it’s hard to look for the keys in darkness.  Other than that, the quick key for amazon prime and Netflix is great and easy to switch from source to source. I also love the LG sync feature that allows you to control the soundbar and/or cable box(if you have one) all at the same time for both power on/off and volume.

The LG content bar/Interface

The LG content bar features a lot of premium content including Netflix, amazon prime, LG channels (which is basically internet based TV), sling, Hulu and others. The browser is excellent using chrome/google as the main engine and very rapid if you have good internet connection. My kids love watching youtube and cartoons on this TV. The interface itself is very smooth and a simple ribbon scroll down the bottom. I can truly attest to say that this interface is the best I’ve seen as it’s concise, easy to read/understand, follow, navigate through and select. It’s not bulky or takes up a lot of room like some that I have seen out there that make it hard to navigate.
By far, the best TV I have seen on the market thus far – premium technology at my fingertips. I am ever so grateful to LG for producing such a quality product for my enjoyment and one of the added bonuses as I watch a lot of TV is that it is super energy efficient for such a large size. Great quality, excellent picture, optimized darks, and very rich colors.
